After John Edwards, former senator and presidential candidate, pleaded not guilty six felonies involving campaign finance violations, it was learned he rejected a plea agreement that would have required him to spend as long as six months in jail. Edwards rejected the offer from the Justice Department to plead guilty to three misdemeanors, it is reported, because he doesn’t want to be separated from the two young children he has with his late wife, Elizabeth.
