Suffolk County Sheriff Andrea J. Cabral recently joined with members of the Dorchester Day Parade Committee and other elected officials to welcome a record crowd to the annual Dorchester Day Parade of Seniors event. Held by the Dorchester Day Parade Committee – an organization that began as the “Celebrations Committee” more than a half century ago – the Parade of Seniors event features entertainment, prize giveaways, special guests and lunch, all at no cost to local seniors. Over the years, the event has experienced the kind of growth that has carried it from it’s humble beginnings in hospital community rooms with 30 to 40 participants to it’s current incarnation in Dorchester’s Florian Hall with a full-capacity attendance of 330 and an overflow of applicants that, regretfully, had to be turned away. “This year was the largest turnout ever,” said Parade of Seniors Committee Chair Joe Chaisson. “We had over 375 applications but, unfortunately, we were limited to an attendance figure of 330.” During the event, Sheriff Cabral expressed her appreciation for the organizers of the event and its participants, and thanked her supporters before going on to greet those 330 attendees, visiting with them as they sat among the tables in the hall. Following the Parade of Seniors, Chaisson expressed his own admiration for the Sheriff of Suffolk County. “One of my favorite attendees is Sheriff Cabral,” Chaisson said. “I always open her introduction by saying, ‘Support your local Sheriff,’ or ‘Behave yourself, the Sheriff is in town’. Andrea is one of the most pleasant people I have ever met, whether as a candidate or elected official, she is always very pleasant with a smile for everyone.” |
