A Bradford County correctional officer has been placed on administrative leave while an investigation is conducted into what officials say appears to be the accidental shooting of a female correctional officer he had been dating.

The woman was seriously injured by a shot to the face but is expected to survive. Officials said the shooting apparently happened while the male officer was cleaning his gun.

The incident happened at a home in Palatka around 7:30 p.m. and involved two Bradford County Sheriff's Office correctional officers, according to the Putnam County Sheriff's Office.

Putnam County investigators said Sgt. Charles Greg Hendrix, 50, was cleaning his Glock .40-caliber handgun when the gun accidentally discharged and Cpl. Lori Anne Jestes, 41, was shot in the face. According to a preliminary investigation, the gun appeared to belong to Hendrix.
