(CNN) -- A convicted murderer was fatally shot when he tried to escape from a Washington state prison in a forklift, officials said. Kevin Newland, 25, drove the forklift through the doors of a work area and into the perimeter fences at the Clallam Bay Corrections Center on Wednesday, the Washington Department of Corrections said. A correctional officer fired a shot at Newland, killing him, the department said. Read More. |
