Alajuwon Johnson, the man who escaped from a minimum security halfway house in Coralville last month and allegedly evaded officers again over the weekend, is back behind bars. The Department of Corrections checked Johnson into the Johnson County Jail on Thursday after he spent more than three weeks on the run. Johnson's girlfriend also is in custody for allegedly helping the Hope House escapee slip through the police's grasp this weekend. DOC spokesman Fred Scaletta said Thursday night he did not have any details about Johnson's apprehension, but he expected to release more information today. On Saturday, police initially caught up with Johnson, 27, who was serving a five-year sentence for involuntary manslaughter. But police said Johnson fled on foot from the officers. On Wednesday, police took his girlfriend, Stephanie Dunbar, 23, of 1100 Arthur St., into custody for allegedly helping Johnson escape. Dunbar allegedly admitted to picking up Johnson after he ran from the police. Read More. |
