Norfolk County Sheriff Michael G. Bellotti is launching his new Yellow Dot program, which is designed to help senior citizens in the event that they are involved in an auto accident. Sheriff bellotti will be rolling out the new free-of-charge program in communities throughout Norfolk County in the coming weeks. “The Yellow Dot program allows emergency responders to a car accident to know what medical conditions a senior citizen may have and which medications he or she may be taking,” Sheriff Bellotti said. “This helps them quickly determine which medical treatment is safest and best suited to help the injured person.” Sheriff Bellotti noted that the Yellow Dot program is similar to his File of Life program, which is a list of crucial medical information that is kept in a highly visible place in a person’s home. “The difference with the Yellow Dot program is that it is kept in the person’s car so that they continue to have that blanket of security when they leave their home,” Sheriff Bellotti said. People who sign up for the program affix a highly visible Yellow Dot sticker to the rear windshield of their car. If they are involved in an accident, paramedics and EMTs quickly spot the Yellow Dot on the vehicle and know to look for the information packet in the person’s glove compartment. A photo of the person is included in the packet to eliminate confusion in case someone else is driving the car. Sheriff Bellotti introduced the program in the town of Cohasset about one month ago. Anyone interested in learning more about the Yellow Dot program should call the Norfolk County Sheriff’s Office at 781-751-3516. |
