State police arrested a 70-year-old Astoria Catholic church deacon on July 10, after he was caught in a somewhat unholy act. Chaplain Frank DeTucci, who is also a prison chaplain, was carrying $200 in his shoe and another $153 in his wallet when a prison guard at the Queensboro Correctional Facility spotted him kneeling in front of an inmate on the morning of July 10, court records state. During questioning, DeTucci told investigators that he paid the inmate $120 on July 5 and $150 on two other occasions to perform oral sex in the chaplain’s office at the Long Island City minimum security prison, the records state. A spokesperson at the state Department of Corrections said DeTucci has worked as a chaplain for the state prison system since 1992. DeTucci, who makes $79,819 a year for his services at the prison, has been put on leave without pay, the spokesperson said. DeTucci is also a deacon at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, where officials said he has been put on administrative leave. The first encounter between DeTucci and the inmate occurred at approximately 9 a.m. on July 5, law enforcement sources said. DeTucci was arrested by state police moments after the two men met for a second time on July 10, the sources said. There was more a sense of disappointment than anger from church parishioners who gathered on local street corners this week, speaking in whispers about the arrest. Read More. |
