Inmate sex case against jail officer tossed out

A Cook County, Ill. judge has thrown out the case against the third of three former County Jail corrections officers accused of having sex with inmates last year.
Circuit Judge Vincent Gaughan already had found one former officer, Kenneth Swearnigen, not guilty in a bench trial, and he had tossed out the case against a second former officer, James Anthony III. Last Tuesday, he dismissed the official misconduct case against Iyare Egonmwan without hearing witnesses for the defense.
Gaughan has said he did not find the state's witnesses credible. The three were accused last year of trading food, cash and makeup with inmates for sexual favors.
All three officers were assigned to the women's general population in Division IV of the jail.
