KINGSPORT, Tenn. (AP) — A Kingsport city police officer has resigned following his arrest on a federal indictment from Louisiana. Richard Chandler was arrested on Friday and booked into the Washington County Detention Center, according to the Kingsport Times-News. Kingsport Deputy Police Chief Dale Phipps said Chandler resigned from the force on the same day he was arrested. The indictment under which Chandler is charged remains sealed and it isn't clear what he is charged with. Federal officials told the newspaper the indictment was issued by the U.S. District Court in Lafayette, La.
