Mercer County inmates cause weekend troubles

It was a wild weekend at the Mercer County Adult Detention Facility as two separate inmates managed to cause more than their fair share of mayhem for corrections officers.

One inmate, Thomas M. Allen, 18, Celina, was being held on a $75,000 cash bond for burglary. He had been arrested earlier in the week for breaking into a home on North Shore Dr., but after being confronted by the homeowner and a neighbor, Allen had returned what he took and ran off, later turning himself in to authorities. On Friday, Allen met with a detective in a room usually used by attorneys for client consultation.

After the interview, Allen became enraged, threw the telephone off the table and attempted to kick through the door of the room. He was then placed in lockdown.

Late Saturday night, Jessica Lyn Read, 25, Celina, was brought to the jail after being arrested for persistent disorderly conduct and domestic violence. During the booking process, Read repeatedly refused to cooperate, at times allowing her body to become limp so she was on the floor or sliding off the bench. Efforts to calm Read by Celina Police officers and corrections staff were met with continued refusals to cooperate and profanity.

Being unable to complete the process of booking Read, staff placed her in a holding cell. A short time later, corrections officers found her completely naked, banging her head on the cell door. Staff then entered the room to restrain Read in order to ensure her safety. After an hour in the restraint chair, it appeared that Read had calmed down. She was removed from the chair. She dressed herself and apologized for her behavior.
