Two corrections officers at the Trumbull Correctional Institution were assaulted by an inmate Monday morning and needed medical attention for their injuries. The assault happened shortly before 8 a.m. when a female officer making rounds was confronted by an inmate inside a cell the officer entered after noticing the odor of smoke, said prison warden Bennie Kelly. During the fracas, Kelly said, the officer was able to call for backup and the two officers were able to restrain the prisoner, who was taken immediately to isolation. Kelly said he could not talk about the extent of the injuries received by the two officers, but did say they were minor and he expected them to return to work soon. They were taken to St. Joseph Health Center where they were treated and released. Read More. |
