A riot involving 160 juveniles at Trinity-Whitewater led to four arrests late Sunday, but no injuries, authorities said. A power outage about 9:40 p.m. led to unruly behavior at the home for boys who are placed at the facility through the court system, officials said. Riverside County (Calif.) Sheriff's deputies responded to staff reports of residents throwing rocks and refusing to stop, officers said. The riot lasted for about 30 minutes, Sgt. Earl Quinata said. Four juveniles were arrested for obstructing and interfering with authorities and were transported to juvenile hall in Riverside. Only 120 are licensed at the facility located at 55860 Haugen Lehmann. There were 40 extra juveniles because they had to be evacuated from a Trinity juvenile home in Anza because of a brush fire. "We were following fire department guidance," Trinity spokeswoman Kati Schmidt said. "We moved them temporarily to the closest facility, which was Whitewater." |
