Cheek launches sheriff’s bid |

Corsicana — Larry Cheek, Police Chief for the City of Rice, has thrown his hat into the ring and announced he will run for Navarro County Sheriff. A native of Ennis, Cheek served in the U.S. Marine Corps. He and his family moved to Rice in 1981. He began working as a reserve police officer in Rice, and eventually became police chief there. In 1997, he began working as a deputy for the Ellis County Sheriff’s Office, and then did three years as the jail administrator there. He returned to Rice in 2008 to resume his position as police chief. He holds a Master Peace Officer License, Advanced Jailer License, Certified Mental Health Officer License, Certified Crime Prevention Inspector License and TCLEOSE instructor license. Read More. |
