Stony Mountain Institution outside of Winnipeg is locked down as prison officials comb the facility for weapons.

Correctional Service of Canada officials said several prison-made weapons were discovered in the past few days so the entire facility is being searched for more weapons and any other contraband.

Corrections officers are going cell-to-cell and range-to-range as part of the search.

The lockdown was initiated Tuesday afternoon.
