New Teleconferencing System Now Fully Functional
By New Hampshire Department of Corrections
Published: 08/17/2011

The New Hampshire Department of Corrections announced that a digital teleconferencing system that will allow for more efficient communication between its facilities and the courts is now fully functional. It replaces an analog system that had been in place since the 1990s.

The system was installed in the hearings rooms of the New Hampshire State Prison in Concord and the Northern New Hampshire Correctional Facility in Berlin. Videoconferencing is also available with the New Hampshire State Prison for Women in Goffstown and with the state’s courts.

The system is utilized for parole hearings, video arraignments, and other legal proceedings with the signal being sent via an Internet connection rather than the more expensive phone lines used in the past. The previous system was unreliable and would frequently disconnect during parole hearings and other legal proceedings.

The system was authorized during the 2009-2010 biennium and cost approximately $25,000 to install and is expected to help reduce transportation and telephone costs.
