Six of eight Cowley County Mental Health and Counseling Center board members were replaced with new appointees at the Tuesday meeting of the Cowley County commissioners. The new appointments are effective immediately. Commission chair Gary Wilson said in a written statement, which he read at the meeting, that during the past several weeks, the commission has been inundated with phone calls, emails and personal visits from present and past employees, consumers, their family members and the general public with complaints and concerns about the management and operation of the mental health center. According to Wilson, the commission takes these issues very seriously and believes the center is not going in the direction of providing services which are in the best interest of the county and, most importantly, the clients. “After giving this problem much thought, I believe a change in the present board is necessary, and a more aggressive approach is needed in order to address the problems with management of the facility in order to provide the best possible services for consumers and a better work environment for employees,” said Wilson. “I would like to thank the present board members for their service.” Effective immediately, the following people were appointed to the board: Roger Horton, replacing Chad Gordon; Darrin Green, replacing Melanie Burnett; Ivy Beals, replacing Jim Hinegardner; Bob Matthews, replacing Dean Kennedy; and Kanyon Gingher, replacing Matthew Wilson. Another current board member, Ron Malawy, will also be replaced with an appointee to be named by the new board. Another vacant position, to be filled by a consumer or family member of a consumer of the mental health center, will be appointed by the newly constituted board. Read More. |
