| Officer fires at fleeing parolee |

A pre-dawn vehicle pursuit Tuesday in the Casa Blanca neighborhood of Riverside ended with a police officer opening fire on a fleeing 23-year-old Riverside parolee, investigators said. No one was hit by the gunfire. The incident began at 1:27 a.m. when an officer tried to stop a vehicle but the driver sped away, prompting a car chase, officials said in a written statement. When the vehicle reached Bunker and Diamond streets, the passenger tried to escape on foot, and the officer gave chase, the statement said. Police haven't said what prompted the officer to open fire at the man. The passenger was taken into custody at a nearby residence, police said. But the driver, who fled the scene after the passenger got out of the car, was still at large. Read More. |
