Published: 09/02/2011

Cheyenne – Wyoming Department of Corrections Director Bob Lampert announced today that Kathleen Heine from the Wyoming Womens’ Center (WWC) has been recognized nationally as one of the “Best in the Business” by the American Correctional Association (ACA).

Heine is the business manager at the Womens’ Center in Lusk and has been with the Department since 1986. First hired to develop applications for newly-adopted computers and train staff on their use, Heine has worked in a variety of fields at the WWC including operating control rooms and running the inmate commissary.

She is one of five people that were recognized nationally as a “Best in the Business” selectee by the ACA. Since June 1991, the ACA has honored individuals in the corrections field for their contributions to the field. Heine was recognized for her overall excellence and dedication due to her commitment to the programs and work over the years at WWC.

Each year, ACA solicits submissions from adult and juvenile, state and federal facilities in the United States, as well as the Correctional Service of Canada. One individual is selected for each of the following categories: heroism, innovation, community service, overall excellence/dedication and other.

Based on the recommendations received by ACA, a committee reviews the submissions and selects a group of individuals to represent the “Best in the Business.” In addition to the narrative of the individuals that is provided by the agency, the ACA committee takes into consideration their geographic location, gender and sector of work in order to achieve a representative balance of the corrections field.

The ACA is the oldest and largest international correctional association in the world. It serves all disciplines within the corrections profession and is dedicated to excellence in every aspect of the field, from standards and accreditation to research to professional development and certification.
