Corrections Commissioner Joseph Ponte says the revamped unit will be housed in a part of the prison once used to isolate inmates. Maine Corrections Commissioner Joseph Ponte says he's creating a dedicated mental health unit at the Maine State Prison for the most seriously ill inmates. Ponte says the new unit will be housed in a part of the so-called special management unit, where inmates were once sent to isolation. Ponte says his recent push to reduce the number of inmates in isolation has created some space for the new mental health unit, which he told Capitol News Service he expects to have up and running by the end of the year.
