Cheyenne – Wyoming Department of Corrections Director Bob Lampert announced today three new appointments for leadership positions at the department, including two correctional facilities. Julie Tennant-Caine has been appointed as the new Deputy Administrator for Support Services for the Prison Division at the Cheyenne Central Office; Steve Hargett has been appointed as the new Warden for the Wyoming Medium Correctional Institution in Torrington; and Michael Murphy has been appointed as the new Warden of the Wyoming Honor Conservation Camp in Newcastle. Tennant-Caine is coming from the Division of Victim Services for the Wyoming Attorney General’s Office. In addition, she has served as the executive director of community corrections for Frontier Correctional Systems in Cheyenne, the victim/witness coordinator for the First Judicial District Attorney's Office, and as a juvenile probation officer with the Department of Family Services. Her new responsibilities will include delivery of inmate health care; inmate programming and treatment; adult and vocational education; prison industries and work programs; inmate classification and case management; reentry; and other contractor provided offender service, including religious services. Hargett is currently the Warden for the Wyoming Honor Conservation Camp and has over 37 years of experience in corrections. He has worked in both private and state correctional and jail operations. Most recently, Hargett has worked with the WHCC staff to become the first department institution to apply for accreditation by the American Correctional Association and has indicated plans to move WMCI to ACA accreditation within the next two years. Murphy is currently the Warden for the Wyoming Medium Correctional Institution. He has also served as the Warden and Associate Warden of the Wyoming State Penitentiary. He was responsible for leading staff through the successful opening of Wyoming’s newest corrections facility, WMCI, in 2006. His previous experience with work release, youthful offender programming and prison-to-community initiatives in Missouri will be a benefit at WHCC and will also be focused on finalizing the facilities accreditation. “Each of these individuals has a wealth of experience and a strong background of leadership that will benefit the department and the staff they work with,” Lampert said. “They continue the tradition of excellent staff we have been fortunate to have working at the department’s offices and facilities.” |
