MN DOC Corrections still cooperating on jail needs |

Chisago County has been given an extension of its grace period the state had earlier granted for the jail. The Commissioner for the Minnesota Corrections Department had informed the county the facility would be re-classified for use only as 90-day holding, as of March 31. The number of beds would drop to 60 from 67. This state deadline was first extended to July 1, in the wake of conversations between the newly-elected sheriff and corrections officials. The state government shutdown affected this deadline and the sheriff finally got word in August, relaying the department's decision to continue to work with Chisago County. Issues needing to be addressed are related to programming shortcomings and square footage per inmate. The jail "dayroom" is about 217 square feet which is about one-fifth the size called for in state standards.
