Arizona judge refuses to block private prison beds |

PHOENIX -- A judge on Wednesday refused to immediately block Arizona from issuing contracts for 5,000 additional private prison beds. Maricopa County Superior Court Judge Arthur Anderson denied a request for a temporary restraining order from a Quaker group that cited concerns about security at private prisons. Anderson, however, will still consider in the future a request by the American Friends Service Committee for a preliminary injunction to block the state's awarding of new contracts. In denying the request for a temporary restraining order, Anderson said the group hadn't proved that denial would result in irreparable harm. Read More. |
