Local Program Helps Former Inmates Return to Society |

Former prisoners or ex-convicts are often looked at as people who should not be helped, but the truth is at some point a majority of them will return to society. Where will they go? What will they do? Those questions are being answered across the state of Missouri and even here locally by organizations and individuals willing to help those in need. Charles Tripplet was paroled in 2007 after spending 30 plus years in prison. "Coming back into society is totally different. You do not have a job. You do not have a place to stay. The way the economy is now it is generally rough," said Tripplet. A program known as the Missouri Re-Entry Process is helping people like Tripplet return to a life of normalcy. "When you are incarcerated you are confined. Your family friends and everything. You are totally separated. You have to readjust in general to people, kids, women, etc.," said Tripplet. The Re-Entry Process is a collaborative effort between the Missouri Department of Corrections, state agencies and local community and faith based partners. Read More. |
