Chaplain facing trial in fake hostage scheme |

OSHKOHS — A former Oshkosh Correctional Institution inmate testified last week that a prison chaplain concocted a fake hostage scheme that would result in both of them being transferred to different Department of Corrections facilities. The inmate, John Washington, 36, said the plan involved barricading the door leading into the office of the chaplain, Jamyi J. Witch, to simulate a hostage situation, and Witch giving the inmate narcotics that would make him go to sleep while she sang him lullabies, allowing guards to enter the office without incident. "She told me I would go to (Wisconsin Resource Center) or Waupun," he testified. "I wanted to get out of Oshkosh." The inmate testified that he let Witch do most of the talking during the Aug. 10 incident. "This is all her plan," Washington testified Thursday during a preliminary hearing for Witch, 52, of Omro. "The only thing I know is I've known Ms. Witch for about eight to 10 years and I've gained respect and trust for her." Witch was previously a chaplain at Waupun Correctional Institution, where Washington was at the same time serving a sentence.
