Authorities are investigating the apparent hanging of a Henry County (Ga.) Jail inmate whose body was found in the jail library.
Theresa Singletary, 42, was found hanged, possibly by her T-shirt, in the library Aug. 7 - just several days after getting treatment for suicidal tendencies, said Maj. David McCart, the jail's spokesman.
Singletary, who had been in jail since her July 24 arrest for firing at police officers, was sent to spend the night in the library Aug. 6 after causing a disturbance in the female inmate population, McCart said. He added that she was not under suicide watch because she was on medication and recently received psychiatric treatment.
The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is looking into Singletary's death, a procedure that's "routine," said spokesman John Bankhead.
Singletary reportedly shot her way into a neighbor's home, then firing at police officers at the scene. Officers fired back and grazed Singletary's left arm before taking her into custody.
