Two inmates charged in prison stabbing

Two former Pontiac Correctional Center inmates have been charged with beating and stabbing another inmate last summer.
Authorities say Marty Blackmon and Robert Boyd chipped through the walls of their cells to get to fellow inmate Allen Robinson, whom they beat with a metal bar.
A Livingston County (Ill.) grand jury indicted the men last Tuesday on charges of attempted murder and aggravated battery. A court date has not been set.
A conviction could add from 30 to 60 years to each man's sentence.
Robinson, who survived the incident, now is jailed at another state facility. Both Blackmon and Boyd have been transferred to the super-maximum-security prison at Tamms.
Court documents say the attack occurred overnight Aug. 20 and 21.
All three men were in the prison's disciplinary segregation unit, which houses virtually all of the inmates at Pontiac.
Inmates in that unit are locked in their cells 23 1/2 hours a day.
Inmates often are sent to Pontiac because they have violated rules at other state prisons.
Blackmon, 24, is serving a 44-year sentence for a Cook County murder, four years for two counts of beating a police officer in Livingston County and seven years for bringing a weapon into a jail in Will County.
His current projected parole date is 2035.
Boyd, 28, is serving a 12-year sentence for stealing a car in Cook County, four years for two counts of beating a police officer in Alexander County, and three years for damaging state-supported property in Livingston County and possessing a weapon at a jail in Clinton County.
His current projected parole date is 2015.
Boyd previously served time for robbery and aggravated battery.
