GREEN HAVEN NY — Two correctional officers at the Green Haven Correctional Facility in the Town of Beekman were assaulted in separate incidents Tuesday, the union said today. At around 11:45 a.m., a “combative inmate" struck an officer in the ear with his elbow, splitting the officer’s ear open. The officer was taken to a local hospital where he received stitches for the injury, said Mike Mazzella, vice president of the Mid-Hudson Region New York State Correctional Officers & Police Benevolent Association. Around 4:20 p.m., another inmate struck an officer in the face. The officer was also taken to a hospital. Neither have been able to return to work, he said. Read More. |
