World Inmates threatened over prison hunger strikes |

Californian officials threatened on Thursday to put the organisers of a state-wide hunger strike over dire prison conditions into solitary confinement if they don't end their action. California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation chiefs also warned participants that they could lose personal items from their cells. Inmates started to refuse state-issued meals on Monday. They are demanding an end to the practice of keeping suspected gang members in isolated "security housing units" for indefinite periods and strict rules which minimise human contact.
