Open-door ministry for released felons closes its doors |

A Salem nonprofit ministerial group, respected and reviled for sheltering sex offenders, is shutting down its largest and last transitional home for felons released from prison. Impending closure of the North Salem facility operated by Stepping Out Ministries is requiring dozens of resident felons to relocate. Stepping Out can't afford to keep operating the 35-bed transitional home at 650 Locust St. NE, said Steve Silver, executive director of the Christian faith-based organization.
