The Livingston County Jail declared an overcrowding emergency Wednesday, but no inmates had to be released early, the sheriff said. Sheriff Bob Bezotte said the jail averaged an inmate population of more than 260 a day for five consecutive days, which exceeds the limits at the 254-bed facility. However, Bezotte said no inmates had to be released early after the jail population decreased to some inmates posting bond. To alleviate the overcrowding situation, jail officials expedited some inmate transfers to the state Department of Corrections, Bezotte said. The female inmate population continues to remain above capacity. There are 31 beds dedicated for female inmates, but there were 41 female inmates Wednesday, Bezotte said. Read More. |
