Madison County Jail not at fault for inmate's attempted suicide |

EDWARDSVILLE -- A federal judge has dismissed a suit alleging that Madison County Jail officials were indifferent to the risk of an inmate's suicide. Reginald Pittman tried to hang himself in his cell in 2007, using a blanket tied to the bars of his cell. He survived, but suffers from brain damage. Pittman, who had been in jail on a charge of aggravated discharge of a firearm, alleged that the jailers were "deliberately indifferent" to the risk of suicide and did not take appropriate steps.
