Prison system must clean up its mess |

Even a child still working his or her way out of diapers should know that you clean up your messes. In the case of Camp Waterloo, it’s a lesson that state government did not learn. Waterloo Township residents describe the former camp as a blight on their community. It’s covered in junk and is an invitation to vandals and squatters. The camp is probably more of a menace than any foreclosed home or vacant property. A decade has passed since Camp Waterloo closed, and still there has been no discernible sign the state Department of Corrections will have bulldozers at the ready soon. A corrections spokesman said for a story Monday that coming up with $800,000 in demolition costs is the obstacle. Read More. |
