CRANSTON, R.I. – October 18, 2011 – The New England Council on Crime and Delinquency (NECCD) awarded Laura Queenan, a Probation and Parole Aide in the Interstate Office of Adult Probation and Parole at the Rhode Island Department of Corrections, with the 2011 Angelo R. Musto Award. The award was presented at NECCD’s 72nd Annual Training Institute held in Mystic, CT, October 2-5. Queenan was nominated by Michelle Pouliot, Probation and Parole Officer with the Cranston Regional Office of Adult Probation and Parole and the NECCD’s Rhode Island State Chair.

In her nomination Pouliot mentions that Queenan has “single-handedly streamlined the registration process for NEECD, bringing [the organization] into the 21st Century by developing a user-friendly and organized computerized system.” Pouliot writes in her letter of nomination, “In doing so, Lori has brought the registration process to a level of efficiency that nobody currently involved with this organization has ever witnessed.” Pouliot also praises Queenan’s hard work, dedication and leadership, which she has witnessed and benefited from through her work over the NEECD for the past ten years.

Ms. Queenan is a resident of Rumford, R.I., and has been employed by the state for 28 years. She has been with the RIDOC for 19 of those years, beginning as a Senior Word Processing Typist, a position she held until her promotion to Probation & Parole Aide in 1997. She is a graduate of the Community College of Rhode Island, where she earned an Associate’s degree in 1978.

The NECCD is comprised of members from various fields of the criminal justice system. The organization is committed to public safety and provides community programming and training on the prevention of crime and delinquency, offender rehabilitation and reintegration of prisoners into communities.

The Angelo R. Musto award was created in honor of Mr. Musto, who was the President of the NECCD in 1974 and General Chairman of the joint 1984 NEECD/Association of Probation and Parole Administrators (APPA) Convention. Its goal is to give recognition to past or current members of the NECCD who have made an exceptional contribution to the organization.
