| Warden Seeks To Curb Negative Perception Around Prison |

SANTA FE, N.M. -- The new warden of the Santa Fe State Penitentiary sat down with Action 7 News to discuss what’s being done to combat negative perception of the prison. Warden James Lopez said he’s not shying away from the word negative, but is working hard to create a positive environment for both employees and those behind bars. “Unfortunately this is a negative, unfortunate environment and it's really easy to get caught up in the negativity that will bring them down,” Lopez said. Lopez said he’s waged war on the negative environment swirling around the state penitentiary. A Target 7 investigation recently uncovered that three corrections officials living on the taxpayer dime on the Santa Fe campus.
