Halloween check on sex offenders |

Hernando County FL -- The Hernando County Sheriff's Office, along with Probation and Parole, will be monitoring sexual offenders and predators from noon until 11:00 p.m. today. According to a press release, Corporal Wendy McGinnis, HCSO public information officer, she wrote that both agencies would be working to ensure all sexual offenders and predators are not participating in Halloween activities. That includes ensuring they don't attempt to attract children to their homes. Deputies will be utilizing both marked and unmarked patrol vehicles to conduct these checks. Florida doesn't have laws banning sexual offenders from celebrating Halloween, according to the Florida Department of Corrections. However, those still under state supervision are typically told it's not in their best interest to participate in Halloween activities.
