OKLAHOMA CITY -- Hundreds of Oklahoma inmates may be eligible for early release under a new law aimed at easing prison overcrowding and spending within the state. According to the Department of Corrections, as many as 300 inmates could be released Tuesday when the new law takes effect. Inmates are eligible for early release if they've been sentenced to less than five years and have served at least 90 days of the sentence. The law only applies to non-violent offenders. The original request called for 500 inmates to be released, but the governor only signed off on 300. Read More. |
