Commissioners to consider suing DOC |

The Bryan County Commissioners have been in a battle with the Oklahoma Department of Corrections (DOC) over the county housing DOC inmates. Currently, a state statute says that DOC must pay counties $27 a day for the cost of housing inmates. It has been reported that the state attorney general issued an opinion that DOC must pay counties housing DOC prisoners any expenses accrued more than $27. The DOC does not interpret the statute to mean this, however. In a previous meeting, the commissioners approved a resolution setting the daily rate for DOC inmates at $43.58. DOC did not approve this amount and Bryan County District No. 1 Commissioner Monty Montgomery said having to pay extra for the inmates is weighing heavily on the county’s finances. Read More. |
