LINCOLN IL — A legislative panel will meet Thursday morning in Springfield to vote on Gov. Pat Quinn’s recommendation to close Logan Correctional Center in Lincoln. The Commission on Government Forecasting and Accountability will meet at 8 a.m. in Room 400 of the Capitol Building. The panel will also vote on proposed closures of the Jacksonville Development Center and the Tinley Park Mental Health Center. The commission’s recommendation is non-binding. “The governor has never gone against the commission’s recommendations,” said Dan Long, executive director of the commission, “but we will see what happens.” Quinn spokesman Kelly Kraft said the governor would take the recommendations under advisement. The facility is scheduled to be closed Dec. 31, but budget negotiations and a lawsuit could extend that. The Logan Correctional Center houses 1,900 inmates and employs 357 workers. Illinois Department of Corrections Director Salvador Godinez is also expected to attend the meeting and be available to answer any questions of the commission before the vote. Read More. |
