The Idaho Department of Juvenile Correction houses some 140 juvenile offenders in their Saint Anthony facility. The juveniles are from all over the state. Authorities there are still investigating a 47- year-old rehabilitation specialist with the Department of Correction. Wayne Potter has been charged with sexual assault of a minor, a ten-year-old girl who was not in the state's care. Still Department Director, Brent Reinke says they are conducting an internal investigation and cooperating in a criminal investigation. "We are working with and cooperating with Freemont County both the Sheriff's Department and the Prosecutors office on the criminal investigation pertaining to Mr. Potter. And we have been working very closely with the Idaho State Police on an Administrative internal investigation trying to determine what we knew, when we knew it and what we did about it." One of the things the Department did was issue a statewide e-mail with a questionnaire attached to probation officials to answer questions they may get from parents. "I have personally had no contact from parents yet and that is what this questionnaire is about." State officials say they are not sure how many young juvenile offenders maybe victims here and where those juveniles are from. But the Director of the Department of Juvenile Correction says an internal administrative review, and a criminal investigation will get to the bottom of it. "Once Freemont County determines what charges maybe brought than we will go to the next step. But it is a little bit premature right now to make any statement of that nature." |
