HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) _ Court records say a former deputy state prison warden will contribute a portion of his pension to help the state pay his jail costs on charges of having sex with an inmate. The Hartford Courant reports (http://cour.at/u7RYPJ ) that Neal Kearney, former deputy warden at the Bergin prison in Mansfield, will give up $2,000 from his $5,555 monthly pension. A civil lawsuit was settled Oct. 31 in Hartford Superior Court after the Department of Correction sued to recover the $133-per-day cost of imprisoning Kearney. He began a 30-month sentence at the Corrigan-Radgowski prison in Montville in July. After Kearney’s release, pension payments will be split 50-50 until costs are paid. Kearney’s arrest warrant in September 2009 says an inmate relented to Kearney’s demands for sex because of the deputy warden’s authority. click here for more of the story. |
