DEDHAM, MA, Nov. 21, 2011 – The Norfolk County Sheriff’s Office recently hosted specialists from around the state who attended an incident command training seminar dealing with how to manage major public safety emergencies such as large chemical spills, explosions, floods and hurricanes. The seminar, held in the Campbell Conference Room at the Norfolk County Correctional Center in Dedham, was run by the Massachusetts Emergency Management Agency (MEMA). Supervisory staff members from the Norfolk County Sheriff’s Office as well as representatives from the Massachusetts Department of Public Health. “We were very happy to host the seminar and to assist MEMA in any way,” Sheriff Bellotti said. “When an emergency strikes, preparedness is the key to minimizing its effects. We hope we don’t have to put these plans into practice, but if we do, we are confident we will be operating under the best training available.” During the three-day seminar, participants learned about mobilizing numerous resources in response to a major incident. They also focused on how to establish a temporary command structure when multiple agencies are involved. The classes included hypothetical situations in which participants went through various response protocols. “I am an advocate of getting the best training possible for our men and women at the front lines of potentially dangerous situations,” Sheriff Bellotti said. “If they can do their jobs safely, they can keep all of us safe.” |
