Report: Iowa Prison Population To Top 11K |

DES MOINES, Iowa -- A new report is showing Iowa's prison population is expected to top 11,000 by fiscal year 2021. The Cedar Rapids Gazette newspaper in reported the forecast by Paul Stageberg of the Department of Human Right's division of criminal and juvenile justice planning also says Iowa's prison population should set a record of more than 9,200 by 2013 and increase each year thereafter. Stageberg said revoked probations and court commitments will increase and changes to sentencing and sex offender laws will keep inmates in prison longer. Read More. |
