| Sheriff Bellotti's Office to Receive ED Grant |

Norfolk County Sheriff Michael G. Bellotti is pleased to announce that the Norfolk County Sheriff’s Office has been notified that it has been chosen to receive a federal grant to help inmates learn job skills while they’re incarcerated. The grant money will be used to enhance an existing landscaping program and to start two new programs in auto detailing and home and industrial floor care. “We’re grateful to be chosen to receive these resources, and we will put them to good use,” Sheriff Bellotti said. “In the corrections field these days, all programming must have a public safety benefit. In this case, we’ll use this grant to give people skills they can use in the job market. Having a good job is the best deterrent to committing crime.” The Norfolk County Sheriff’s Office also has training programs in the areas of culinary arts; heating, ventilation and air conditioning; HVAC electrical and commercial baking. The $15,000 grant stems from a congressional mandate under the Carl D. Perkins Vocational and Education Act of 1998. “In this challenging fiscal climate, we will continue to aggressively compete for alternative funding sources such as this grant to ensure that Norfolk County residents receive the highest quality public safety,” Sheriff Bellotti said. |
