Inmates: Sex acts happened in jail |

Three former Webster County (Mo.) Jail inmates testified in court last Wednesday about alleged sexual abuses while they were in custody. A 40-year-old Marshfield woman claimed that ex-jailer George Bissell touched her inappropriately on two occasions while she was incarcerated on a probation violation. "I just kind of slapped at his hand and looked at him," she said of him allegedly squeezing her chest. The woman was among the final four state witnesses on the third day of a quo warranto civil trial to determine whether Webster County Sheriff Ron Worsham should be removed from office. The sheriff also took the stand as the first of five defense witnesses, and testified that no state statutes were violated during his tenure. The Missouri attorney general's office is accusing Worsham of neglecting his duties and ignoring or concealing certain employee actions within his office. Judge William Hass, a retired Oregon County judge who will determine the case's outcome, anticipated the trial ending today. The Marshfield woman also testified the jailer asked her to act as a lookout while he had sexual contact with another female inmate while wearing his Webster County uniform. A 29-year-old Marshfield woman also testified the same jailer touched her chest and put his hand down her pants on separate occasions. She served about a month in jail for passing bad checks and interfering with child custody. A sheriff's department investigation began after a letter she wrote detailing the incidents was delivered to the county's prosecuting attorney. Bissell was arrested, terminated from his job, and faces felony charges in connection with the accusations. His alleged abuse was not the only behavior the women described. Male trustees, who prepared meals at the jail, encouraged female prisoners to perform stripteases with the promise of getting better food, they alleged. A couple of the females stripped naked while a trustee watched, claimed the witnesses, who did not participate. |
