CARSON CITY, Nev. — The state Board of Prison Commissioners will get an update on the progress toward closing the aging Nevada State Prison in Carson City. The prison houses Nevada's death chamber and parts of it date back to the 1860s. Closing the prison has been debated for years. Department of Corrections officials say shuttering it and moving inmates to new, more efficient prisons will save millions of dollars in staff and operating costs. Read More. |
