| WDOC Training Lieutenant selected for national board |

Cheyenne – Wyoming Department of Corrections (WDOC) Training Lieutenant Robert Nelsen has been selected by his peers to serve on the International Association of Correctional Training Personnel (IACTP) Board of Directors. He will serve as a member at-large on the IACTP Board. He will also serve on the IACTP committee which selects award recipients each year. Nelsen began with the WDOC in 1999 as a correctional officer and moved to the Training Academy in March 2008. Nelsen will be joining his supervisor, WDOC Training Academy manager Pete Norris, who currently serves on IACTP Board. “We have excellent staff who are dedicated to their professions and leading the way with knowledge, experience and training,” WDOC Director Bob Lampert said. “Lt. Nelsen will excel on the board and represent Wyoming well.” IACTP is an international professional association of trainers, training administrators, and educators representing all aspects of the field of adult and juvenile justice. The organization was established in 1974. It is focused on enhancing public safety and the fair and humane treatment of offenders by promoting organizational and individual excellence in the profession of training. The WDOC Training Academy is composed of six training lieutenants who conduct the academy training curriculum four times a year. In addition, the training staff work with all the WDOC offices and institutions to insure staff are receiving refresher courses or are retrained with the latest techniques, knowledge and processes for management of offenders. The academy is located at the Wyoming State Penitentiary in Rawlins and all new WDOC staff attends the academy anywhere from a week to ten weeks depending on the responsibilities and classification of their job duties. |
