Folsom prison inmates shot, stabbed during riot |

FOLSOM, CA - A shooting at California State Prison, Sacramento in Folsom has left several inmates and prison staff with injuries. The riot began Wednesday around 12:30 p.m. and lasted about 10 minutes before staff were able to get it contained. Sgt. Tony Quinn of the California Department of Corrections said the riot lasted an "extremely long" time. The riot started in the Unit-C Facility, which is the prison's recreational area for inmates. "It's a main exercise yard. (It was) just regular(recreation) time --they're just out playing basketball, normal activities, and then a riot erupted, said Quinn. About 50 inmates were involved. By the time prison staff were able to get it under control using pepper spray, rubber projectiles and firearms, 10 inmates were injured. Two of them had gunshot wounds.
