Inmate death at MCI-Norfolk ruled a homicide |

NORFOLK — MA The Norfolk District Attorney’s office this afternoon is reporting that the death of an inmate at MCI-Norfolk has been ruled a homicide. Richard Silva, 64, formerly of Lowell, was found dead in his cell yesterday (Monday, Dec. 12) afternoon, authorities said. The office of the Chief Medical Examiner conducted an autopsy, according to the DA's office, and "the manner of death has been ruled a homicide." The cause of death was blunt force trauma, the DA's office reports. "Massachusetts State Police homicide detectives attached to the Norfolk District Attorney’s office, working with Department of Corrections, continue to investigate this homicide, with no charges brought at this time," the DA's office indicated in a report released at 3:30 this afternoon (Dec. 13). Yesterday's story: Authorities are investigating the death of an inmate at the Massachusetts Correctional Institution at Norfolk earlier today, Dec. 12, according to the Norfolk District Attorney's office. At about 4 p.m., State Police detectives attached to the DA's office, and forensic investigators attached to the Crime Scene Services Section, responded to the MCI-Norfolk for the report of a dead inmate.
