CRESTVIEW, FL — Out of more than 25,000 employees with the Florida Department of Corrections, an officer at Okaloosa Correctional Institution has been named Institutions Employee of the Year. Lt. Charlotte Pryor, who has been with the department since 1994, said she was at a loss for words when she was informed that she was one of four corrections employees to win statewide awards. “I was extremely surprised, proud. Words really can’t explain,” Pryor said. “I love being here. I’ve had the opportunity to meet a lot of great people, had great supervisors. It’s a privilege to work at a place that promotes growth. Warden Jon Willis said he has worked in corrections for 21 years, but this is the first time he has known an award recipient. “She is ranked lieutenant, which is a middle rank, but she is one of our informal leaders,” Willis said. “She’s been here forever. The staff looks up to her, they depend on her. All the staff look up to her and the position she holds.” Along with Pryor, a woman from Monroe County was awarded Employee of the Year; a man from Lake County was awarded Community Corrections Employee of the Year; and a woman from Lafayette County was named Support Employee of the Year.
