The California State Sheriffs’ Association (CSSA) has voted to support the California State Association of Counties (CSAC) Board of Directors on their decision to suspend pursuit of realignment and law enforcement funding constitutional protections initiative filed by CSAC, CSSA and the Chief Probation Officers of California. The reason behind the Sheriffs’ vote is to await more information, including title and summary on Governor Brown’s similar initiative proposal for a state constitutional amendment. Following a meeting and conference call with the Governor, it was clear that he shared the Sheriffs’ and CSAC’s goal of securing constitutional protections for counties and law enforcement. “After meeting with the Governor and speaking with him on a conference call yesterday afternoon, the Sheriffs voted to support CSAC’s decision, stated Merced County Sheriff Mark Pazin, CSSA President. “This will allow us to have time to obtain more information on his initiative and for his coalition of support to develop. Governor Brown has been a true champion and advocate for education and public safety. He has engaged the Sheriffs in numerous, recent and ongoing communications have led to our decision today. It is clear he shares our goals – we look forward to working with him on this significant issue.” |
